Abstract
Poly ethylene based nanocomposite containing modified clays were prepared by insitue polymerization. exfoliation of nanoparticles, variety in the use of catalyst, being easy to automate and the possibility to change polymerization condition were the main reasons for using instue polymerization. due to flame retardant properties, accessible, non-toxic, low cost, layer structure, high aspect ratio cation exchange capacity surface electrical properties, High water absorption, and eco friendly, montmorillonite(MMT) was used in this study. here, due to the hydrophilicity of the nanoparticles used and the hydrophobic nature of the polyethylene matrix, silane modification was initially performed by N- (2-aminoethyl) -3-aminopropylethriomethoxy silane. The placement of modified functional silane groups on montmorillonite was approved by the FT-IR test, which indicated their modification was successful(Due to the presence of the peak at
). heterogenous Zeigler Natta catalyst and diethyl aluminum chloride co catalysts with different amounts of silane modified nanoparticle (1%,2%,3%) were used. For the Polymerization reactor 1000 ml Buchi was used.
All the operations were performed under nitrogen atmosphere by using conventional Schlenk-line techniques. heptane was refluxed over sodium for 48 hr and distilled before use. The reactor was purged by nitrogen for 1 hour, the solvent was added and, the cocatalyst was combined into the reactor at 2 bar pressure of ethylene and 80℃ temperature.condition of synthesis nanocomposite was the same the only difference was that the nanoparticles were poured into the reactor along with the solvent.
X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique was employed to examine the interplanar distance between the nanoclay platelets in different samples of nanocomposite In this test, increasing the spacing of the layers was an indicator of the diffusion of polyethylene chains between nanoparticle layers, and also the influence of nanoparticles on mechanical and thermal properties of nanocomposite was indicated by Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analysis( DMTA). The results show that thermal and mechanical properties were enhanced by there exists successful exfoliated silicate layers in nanocomposite comparing pure polyethylene, and also it seems that more improvement properties were observed in a higher nanoparticle-polymer ratio.
