Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructure Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-11.

Abstract
Zeolitic Imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) are a new class of porous compounds called metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). In these materials, by changing the units of the secondary building, different geometric shapes of the metal-organic framework are created. Also, Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks are a coordination polymer composition, consisting of metal ions and organic ligands. Zeolitic imidazolate framework-11 contains central zinc metal ions and imidazole aromatic ring ligands. In this research, zeolitic imidazolate framework-11 (ZIF-11) nanostructure using the solvothermal method by benzimidazole, toluene, methanol, ammonium hydroxide and, zinc acetate were synthesized at room temperature. Characterization of synthesized ZIF-11 was done using XRD, SEM, EDX, FTIR and, BET analysis. In X-ray diffraction pattern, synthesized ZIF demonstrates the main peak in 2Ө angle of 4.3°, which confirms the successful synthesis of ZIF-11. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy analysis was used to identify the surface properties of synthesized nanostructures. FTIR spectra appeared in the range of 400-4000 cm-1 well represented successful impact of zn2+ and benzimidazole in the imidazole-zeolite-11 framework. The scanning electron microscopy was shown as the dodecahedron quadrilateral morphology of zeolite imidazolate framework-11. The arithmetic average size of synthetic ZIF-11 was about 5.66 μm. The energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectrum can well represent that the elements of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and, zinc in the synthesized ZIF-11. The average pore size of synthesized materials was 1.98 nm which was calculated using Brunauer–Emmett–Teller BET analysis. The adsorption type of synthesized porous nanostructure using BET analysis was IV type. The synthesized zeolitic imidazolate framework-11 can be used in various industries such as wastewater treatment as an adsorbent, photo-catalyst, gas adsorption, etc.
