Abstract:
In this study, the effect of Al-based metallic glass particles as second-phase particle in aluminum matrix composite on textural evolution during equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) was investigated. The composite subjected to 4 passes of ECAP deformation at room temperature by using Route BC (with a 90° sample rotation around the pressing axis between passes). The formation of the ultrafine microstructure originated from the particles stimulated nucleation (PSN) mechanism which arises from complex interactions between the severe plastic deformation and second-phase metallic glass particles during the ECAP processing. This mechanism was responsible for scattered texture of composite samples in high ECAP pass number.
